Wales Names Squad for Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Team Wales Named for Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Olympic champions Emma Finucane and Matt Richards, former world indoor champion Jeremiah Azu and Paralympic sprinter Olivia Breen are among 115 athletes heading to Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August. The squad spans ten sports, featuring 67 women and 48 men aged from 16 to 73, including 22 para‑athletes—the most para‑events ever staged at a Commonwealth Games.

Chef de mission Gethin Jones praised the group as “the very best of Welsh sport – dedicated, ambitious and proud to wear the red jersey.” He added that the team builds on the 2014 legacy and expressed pride in the collective effort behind the scenes. Gareth Davies, former Wales fly‑half and Team Wales chair since April 2023, highlighted the months of planning that have produced a reflective, high‑calibre squad.
