Tour de France Stage 3 Fan Ban After Wildfire

Fire Prompts Spectator Restrictions

A massive wildfire raging in the Pyrénées‑Orientales forced Tour de France organizers to bar fans from the finale of Monday’s third stage. The blaze has consumed roughly 4,000 acres and is located about 60 kilometers from the town of Les Angles, where the race will end. To protect people and property, the entire publicity caravan—a 10‑kilometer line of sponsor vehicles—will not roll through the final 40 kilometers of the route.

Only Essential Vehicles Allowed on the Route

Cyclists and race‑necessary support vehicles are the sole traffic permitted on the last stretch of Stage 3. Spectators have been urged not to gather along the roadside or at the finish line in Les Angles. The decision follows a massive mobilization of fire‑fighting resources, internal security forces, and government agencies to contain the fire. The top priority remains safeguarding lives, infrastructure, and natural areas.

Stage Details and Climbing Challenge

Stage 3 began in Granollers, Spain, where temperatures hit around 35 °C, according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency. Riders will tackle a 9.3‑kilometer ascent up the Col de Toses, averaging a 6.5 % gradient. The climb is classified as Category 1, the second‑hardest tier after Hors Catégorie. This demanding segment is expected to be a key battleground for the overall classification.

Race Standings After Stage 3

Jonas Vingegaard of Visma‑Lease a Bike keeps the yellow jersey, holding a six‑second edge over four‑time Tour champion Tadej Pogacar of UAE Emirates‑XRG. The narrow gap sets up a tight contest for the top spot as the race moves into the French leg. Both riders will face the challenging Pyrenean terrain in the days ahead.
