Cam Ross: Broncos’ Undrafted WR Ready for Return Battle
College Roots
Cam Ross, who wears No. 87, entered the NFL at 5‑10, 186 pounds after stints at UConn, James Madison and Virginia. In his first season with the Huskies he started ten of eleven games and hauled in 60 receptions for 723 yards and four touchdowns. After the 2020 season was canceled, Ross used the extra year of eligibility, but injuries limited him to three games in 2021 (eight catches, 60 yards) and a further shortened campaign in 2022 (two catches, 21 yards). By the end of his UConn tenure he had amassed 44 catches for 552 yards and a TD, plus 31 yards on six punt returns and 147 yards on nine kickoff returns.
James Madison & Virginia Tenure
At James Madison in 2024, Ross turned heads as both a receiver and returner, catching 37 passes for 443 yards and three scores while returning 13 kickoffs for 366 yards and a touchdown. The following year at Virginia he posted a career‑high 53 receptions for 543 yards and two touchdowns, added a rushing attempt for 19 yards and a score, and dazzled on special teams with 171 yards on 22 punt returns and 266 yards on eight kickoff returns, the latter including a TD. His all‑around play earned him Phil Steele honorable‑mention All‑America honors, a first‑team All‑ACC selection and an additional All‑ACC nod as a utility player.
Pro Day & Broncos Signing
In April 2026, Ross showcased his speed at Virginia’s pro day, sprinting the 40‑yard dash in 4.36 seconds, yet he went undrafted. The Broncos signed him as an undrafted free agent immediately after the draft, joining twelve other players as part of a 13‑player class of newcomers. Ross has yet to appear in a regular‑season game for Denver, but he remains on the practice squad and is working to earn a roster spot.
Roster Battle Ahead
The Broncos have added several return specialists this offseason, including Ross and fellow undrafted receiver Kolbe Katsis, suggesting a lively competition for the returner jobs. Veteran returner Marvin Mims is still under contract, and his role could expand on offense or be re‑evaluated after the 2026 season. If the team decides to move on from Mims or needs depth, Ross will be in the mix vying for a 53‑man roster spot.
