Yankees vs Pirates Game Postponed, New Plans Announced

Rain Forces Delay at Yankee Stadium

A sustained rain forecast and severe weather prompted officials to postpone Tuesday’s 7:05 p.m. Yankees‑Pirates matchup at Yankee Stadium. The call came after meteorologists warned of continued precipitation through the evening. Fans who held tickets for the original contest will see the game moved to a doubleheader the following day.

How the Doubleheader Will Unfold

The Yankees announced the postponed game will become the second contest of a split‑admission doubleheader on Wednesday, July 22, set for a 7:05 p.m. start. A separate afternoon game was also reshaped, moving from a 1:35 p.m. kickoff to a 1:05 p.m. beginning. Both games will feature the same teams but on altered schedules to accommodate the weather‑induced changes.

What Those Tuesday Tickets Are Worth

Tickets dated Tuesday, July 21, retain value only for Game 2 of the doubleheader and will not cover the first game. The team clarified that fans should check their ticket stubs to ensure they are used on the correct date and time. This guidance helps avoid confusion as the schedule shifts to fit the delayed game.

Pitching Matchups on the New Dates

Originally, right‑hander Will Warren was slated for his first start after the All‑Star break for the Yankees, while the Pirates planned to counter with Bubba Chandler. The ace of the Yanks, Gerrit Cole, and Pirates’ righty Mitch Keller were set to take the mound in the series finale. Those starters will now look to deliver on the rescheduled afternoons.
