York sign veteran Hunt on two-year deal as new full-back

Jack Hunt Joins York City on Free Transfer

York City’s Summer Signing

Jack Hunt has completed a free‑transfer move to York City, becoming the Minstermen’s eighth summer arrival as the club returns to the Football League. The 35‑year‑old full‑back brings a résumé of nearly 500 EFL appearances across more than ten clubs, having started his career at Huddersfield Town. In the Championship he logged roughly 300 games with Huddersfield, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City.

Recent Clubs and Experience

Hunt’s most recent footballing steps were spent in League One with Bristol Rovers and Stockport County, before a January move to Wigan Athletic. That stint capped a decade‑long journey through multiple tiers of English football. His longevity at the highest levels of the EFL makes him a valuable asset for York’s defence.

Hunt’s Outlook for York

Speaking on the club’s website, Hunt said the promotion achieved last season has the club “making a lot of noise” and that there is “nothing to be fearful of being back in the Football League.” At 35, his experience is expected to help younger teammates adjust to the higher level. York have not disclosed the length of the new contract, keeping the focus on his on‑field contributions.
