Saniya Rivers Leaves Game in Wheelchair After Collision
Injury Occurs Mid‑Quarter
During a Wednesday night game in Uncasville, Connecticut, Sun guard Saniya Rivers was forced to leave the floor in a wheelchair after a clash with Nia Coffey. The incident unfolded with 7:16 remaining in the second quarter, as Coffey blocked a short layup attempt by Rivers.
What Happened on the Court
Rivers appears to have been struck in the face on the follow‑through of the block, and her left sneaker came off during the scramble. Teammates gathered around her, holding up towels, while trainers arrived to wheel her to the locker room. At the moment of exit, she had contributed five points, one rebound, two assists, two steals and a block.
Rivers’ Draft Background and Season Avg
The North Carolina State product was selected eighth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft and quickly became a fan favorite for the Sun. This season she has averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 assists per game, logging roughly 23 minutes of action.
The Sun will need to assess Rivers’ availability for upcoming contests as they continue their push in the league standings. (Original reporting by USA TODAY)
